MONNAIE LOCALE - LA CIGOGNE

La Cigogne is the local, citizen-run and solidarity-based currency of the Haut-Rhin, managed by an association based in Mulhouse. The project aims to boost the local economy by encouraging residents to spend with local shops, craftspeople and service providers committed to responsible practices. Because it circulates only within this network, the currency supports short supply chains, keeps wealth in the region and creates a strong social bond between economic actors and citizens.

Beyond its role as a means of payment, the association stands for values of sustainable development and solidarity, notably through its “Cigogne Solidaire” fund, which finances local community projects. By using this non-speculative currency, members take an active part in democratic governance and in building a more resilient economy. It is a genuine lever for turning money into a common good serving the ecological and social transitions of Alsace.
