Encouraging guests not to request linen washing after every use
Water
- Solution type
- Everyday action

- Water
How can this environmentally friendly action be carried out? In hotels, holiday cottages and other accommodation, a notice can ask guests not to put linen on the floor unless it needs washing. They simply leave towels on the towel rail. This simple action reduces the organization’s environmental impact. Why take this action? By 2050, researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (ITM) predict that 52% of the world’s 9.7 billion people will live in regions experiencing water stress. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines and uses this term when annual water availability per person is below 1,700 m3. Today, 37 countries face “extremely high” water stress, using more than 80% of their available water supply each year, according to the World Resources Institute ranking. For these reasons, it is important to protect this resource.
