Encouraging users to switch off lights
Energy
- Solution type
- Everyday action

Why take this environmentally friendly action? Unnecessary electricity consumption has both an economic and an environmental impact! Forgetting to switch off three 75-watt light bulbs for a whole night uses as much electricity as a 60°C washing cycle! Leaving a light on unnecessarily therefore increases the electricity bill and also uses non-renewable energy. This action also helps combat light pollution, which harms animals and humans. Artificial light masks natural light cycles and can therefore alter behaviour and biological rhythms. Light pollution also affects sleep quality and duration and reduces melatonin, the “sleep hormone”, potentially affecting its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and immune-stimulating properties, among others. It is therefore very important to encourage users to switch off lights when leaving a room, prioritize natural light and turn off all lights at night, including shop window lighting.
