Why encourage users to turn off taps? By 2050, researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (ITM) predict that 52% of the world’s 9.7 billion people will live in regions experiencing water stress. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines and uses this term when annual water availability per person is below 1,700 m3. Today, 37 countries face “extremely high” water stress, using more than 80% of their available water supply each year, according to the World Resources Institute ranking. How can this environmentally friendly action be carried out? Put up a notice above taps in the organization saying: “Remember to turn the tap off properly”. It is also useful to raise employees’ awareness of environmentally friendly actions at work, for example through an engaging training session on the topic. Some equipment can also optimize water management, such as automatic shut-off systems.
