KNAUF Circular® is a service that collects deposits of expanded polystyrene (EPS) waste and recycles it into new products, available throughout France. Types of waste accepted: only clean EPS waste, that is, grey, white or speckled building EPS (offcuts of insulation boards) or EPS from food or other packaging, and technical wedges, of various shapes, sizes or densities. In short, we accept EPS waste that is: • From construction sites (not from deconstruction or demolition, as these are prohibited) • Free of food residue and of any other product (traces of dust or soil tolerated) • Packed in a watertight package that prevents any leakage of micro-beads Other materials often mistaken for expanded polystyrene are not accepted: polyurethane, polyethylene, PVC polyvinyl chloride, polypropylene, other foams… PS chips and even extruded polystyrene (denser than EPS)! Thanks to Knauf Circular®, expanded polystyrene (EPS) can be 100 % recycled and reintroduced into new products. Service across the whole of France thanks to a meshed network of collection points. Optimised collection rounds and the compacting of waste into blocks reduce the carbon footprint linked to transport.
Certifications
The service guarantees the traceability of the collected deposits and ensures their reintroduction into certified material recovery streams.
Resource management
Active participation in an industrial closed loop. By reintroducing recycled material into production, Knauf reduces the use of virgin material (derived from oil) and avoids landfilling or incineration of waste.
Composition & recycling
The EPS deposits (clean and sorted) are collected, then compacted into blocks. These blocks are then ground and turned into new polystyrene beads.
Type of recovery
100 % material recovery. The waste regains its original technical properties to become Knauf products again or other insulation and packaging materials.
Reuse & upcycling
Turning construction site or packaging waste into a strategic resource, thereby closing the product’s life cycle without loss of value.
