Why raise colleagues' awareness of the right temperature? The temperature recommended by ADEME in offices is between 19°C and 21°C. However, temperature alone cannot guarantee a feeling of comfort. There are three essential interactions: Conduction or diffusion: the transfer of energy between objects through physical contact. Convection: the transfer of energy between an object and its environment due to the movement of a fluid. Radiation: the transfer of energy through the emission of electromagnetic radiation. Heating systems always use a combination of these interactions to heat a room. These same interactions also affect people. A human being has an average temperature of 37°C and, functionally speaking, can be compared to a radiator. This is why, beyond the average temperature measured in a room, the temperature of the walls and floor and air movements have a direct influence on how occupants feel and on their comfort. In addition, it is important to note that lowering the heating temperature by 1°C reduces energy consumption by 7%. How can heating and air conditioning be optimised? • Heat only when necessary, for example with a thermostat. • Lower the temperature of unoccupied rooms to 16°C • Switch off the heating in a room when the windows are open • Respect the temperatures recommended by ADEME for each room, that is, keep offices between 19°C and 21°C for heating • Make sure windows and roller shutter boxes are airtight
