Installing a heat recovery system
Energy
- Solution type
- Everyday action
- Theme
- Energy
This approach consists in capturing “waste heat”, the thermal energy inevitably generated by certain equipment or uses (wastewater, refrigeration systems, ventilation), and feeding it back into the establishment’s heating or domestic hot water circuit. Instead of letting this energy dissipate, the establishment uses heat transfer systems to create a virtuous cycle, thereby reducing the need for primary energy.

Its features
Air heat recovery (VRC)
Use of heat recovery fans to capture the calories from extraction systems (kitchens, laundries, cold areas) or from stale air in order to preheat incoming air or water.
Liquid heat recovery (WRA)
Installation of heat exchangers on greywater drainage networks (showers, dishwashing, washing machines) to recover the heat from still-warm wastewater before it leaves the building.
Energy mix optimisation
Integration of this recovered energy into the building management system to reduce the load on the main boilers or heat pumps.
Energy efficiency (SDG 7)
Maximising the yield of every kilowatt consumed by giving it a thermal “second life”.
Climate action (SDG 13)
Direct reduction of CO₂ emissions thanks to lower consumption of raw materials (gas, electricity, fuel oil).
Preserving resources
Reduced pressure on global energy resources through the adoption of a circular economy model applied to thermodynamics.
