Buying local food products

Why favour local food products? Consuming local food products makes it possible to: - Rediscover the true taste of food: indeed, supermarket fruit and vegetables are very often picked before they are ripe so that they can withstand transport, and are then artificially ripened for sale. As a result, they lose flavour, unlike local products picked at maturity. - Benefit from the vitamins of local products: products picked early lose some of their vitamins, unlike local products, which keep their nutritional quality intact. - Support local producers: by cutting out intermediaries, the producer is guaranteed a fair price. This not only helps create a virtuous local economy that can generate jobs, but also saves small farms. - Reduce one's carbon footprint linked to the distribution of products through short supply chains For all organisations, whether private or public, it is possible to favour local market gardeners and caterers and also to have meal baskets delivered to employees by local producers.
